The William Nutter Scene

In 1812 in Botcherby, Margery Jackson, the famed Carlisle Miser, lies dying. At her side is Joseph Bowman, her old Quaker friend of forty years. Under her bed is a trunk containing over nine thousand gold guineas. But her will is unsigned. And even Joseph Bowman does not know everything about her life and the person she used to be...

Miser! the Musical is a completely new theatrical production by Anthony Steven that was first staged at the West Walls Theatre, Carlisle in July 2011. This musical brings to the story of Margery Jackson, covering from 1745, when Bonnie Prince Charlie marched through Carlisle, through the sixteen years of her legal battles against her brother, the Reverend William Jackson, to her final days as an immensely wealthy but almost friendless old woman.

In this photo, Lexie Ward (the young and middle-aged Margery) wears the replica of Margery's yellow dress from Tullie House. This dress is just one of the fabulous costumes from this production. Image (c) Roger Waugh 2011.
